Build with the Spirit of the Earth

Licensed General Contractor Building With Cob in the Piedmont of North Carolina

Bringing the Ancient Building Method of Cob into the 21st Century

Building with earth is a time-tested method of creating beautiful, durable, and energy-efficient housing. Since 2000, we have been at the forefront of integrating this natural method of construction into the mainstream by working with local architects, structural engineers, and building code officials to create cob housing that meets all the requirements of today’s rigorous building code, including the newly approved International Residential Cob Code 2021.

Slipforms, hemp, and tractors

We are also using updated methods of construction with mechanical mixing and placement to ensure consistency and greatly improve building times to make cob affordable for everyone. Using slipform masonry construction allows us to build cob walls quickly, then add cast-in-place hempcrete insulation around the exterior to greatly improve the energy efficiency of our cob walls. We have also increased the compressive strength of our cob walls by integrating hemp fiber along with traditional straw to create buildings that will easily last for centuries.
